The weather this season is on everyone’s mind. So far this season Mother Nature is being very temperamental. Spring has finally come, although it’s three to four weeks late. To further complicate things we have had late rains thru June. The cold weather and the abundance of rain have had the vines in a holding pattern, with the onset of summer we should start to catch up.
We have been busy grafting and replanting our vineyards to bring you some new offerings in the years to come. We have begun replanting one block to Mourvedre, and the young vines are growing rapidly and thriving. The balance this block will be planted next year with Grenache, and Carignane. In addition to the planting we have grafted three and a half acres of vines. For white varieties we have grafted in Arneis, Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne, and Vermentio. The Red varieties grafted in are Cabernet Franc, Carmenere, and Tannat.
The first of the grafting’s are beginning to bud, and we are looking forward to their growth and establishment of these vines. These varieties are planted throughout the Mediterranean and offer great potential for both great varietal wines as well as unique blends. We look forward to bringing you both In the future.
Cheers,
Mark Fowler
